Locksmith pricing · Columbus, Ohio

Understand the work.
Understand the quote.

A useful locksmith estimate starts with the actual job: an apartment lockout, a new key arrangement, a damaged lock or a replacement car key. Each involves different labor, parts and access conditions. This guide helps you ask what is included before agreeing to a visit or additional work.

Ask about each
part of the total.

This site does not publish a flat price for every job. Request the applicable charges for your situation and ask how an inspection could affect the estimate.

Items to clarify in a locksmith estimate
Quote itemWhat to askWhy it matters
Service callIs there a charge for the visit or initial inspection?Understand what is payable before any repair or key work begins.
LaborWhich specific tasks are included?Entry, repair, rekeying and installation are different scopes of work.
Parts and keysWhich hardware and how many keys are included?A quote should identify the components and quantities you are approving.
Vehicle programmingDoes the key need pairing, and is that included?A physical key or fob is not the entire job for every vehicle.
Other chargesAre taxes, scheduling or access-related charges applicable?Ask for the expected total rather than comparing only one advertised component.

For home locks

Count the keyed cylinders rather than only the doors. Say whether your goal is a fresh key arrangement, a repaired fault or different hardware. When comparing rekeying with replacement, ask what parts stay, what changes and whether either option leaves the original operating problem unresolved. A lock that needs repair should not be priced as a routine key change without discussing that fault.

For vehicle keys

Provide the same year, make, model and working-key information to anyone preparing an estimate. Clarify whether the quote is for a complete usable key, just a fob, or a separate programming service. Mention a customer-supplied part before the visit. The car key replacement guide explains the details that affect compatibility.

For a business

Describe the door and the authorized access plan. Ask whether the estimate covers inspection only or also specified repair, rekeying and hardware. Coordinate building access and the approval process for additional work with the person responsible for the premises.

Before.

Agree on the starting scope

Explain the symptoms, the exact address and known restrictions. Ask what the initial amount includes and what may require inspection. If comparing estimates, use the same description each time.

During.

Discuss any change

If inspection reveals a different fault or additional parts, ask what changed and what the revised total will be. Agree on the new work before it proceeds rather than treating the initial estimate as open-ended approval.

After.

Review the completed work

Test the affected keys and hardware, review the described work and ask about any follow-up arrangements offered for it. Keep the relevant service information so a later question can be discussed clearly.
